DERMAL FILLERS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Answers You Need

WHAT IS FILLER?

The facial fillers used at RUMA are made from hyaluronic acid and poly-l-lactic acid. The use of fillers can eliminate wrinkles, plump and hydrate lips, replace soft-tissue volume loss, raise scar depressions, and volumize creases and folds of the face. As we age, our skin becomes more susceptible to wrinkles and fine lines, especially due to sun damage and muscle movement. Facial fillers provide a solution to such damage through facial injections.

HOW MUCH DOES FILLER COST?

Because everyone’s needs are different, and with such a wide variety of treatments involving filler, a personal consultation is the best way to establish cost. With that in mind, filler treatments range between $525-$700 per syringe depending on the product and placement of the filler.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Results are visible immediately after treatment. The healing process then begins which involves swelling for about 3-7 days depending on the amount injected, area injected, and how your body reacts to the procedure. The product then settles and you’ll enjoy your final results about 2-3 weeks after injections. Please give yourself a minimum of 2 weeks before any events or vacations in case of residual bruising and swelling.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

Longevity differs from person to person and from treatment to treatment. Because the product is being injected into the body, some people may metabolize the product faster than others. See below for average longevity based on treatment:
Cheek Filler: 9-18 months
Lip Filler: 6-12 months
Hand Filler: 9-18 months
Chin Augmentation: 9-18 months
Nasolabial Fold (Smile/Laugh Lines) Filler: 6-12 months

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Facial fillers are a temporary solution, and therefore to maintain results, treatments will need to be administered on a recurring basis (see longevity info above).

WILL I NEED TIME TO RECOVER?

Bruising and swelling are expected after having dermal filler lasting anywhere between a few days to two weeks. It is best to not plan any events for at least 2 weeks after injections to allow time for healing.

BEFORE AND AFTER CARE

BEFORE

Do not take any blood thinners for a week prior to your appointment IF your doctor permits it. It is best to avoid alcohol for a week leading up to your appointment as well. If having lip injections do not schedule any dental visits within 2 weeks of your appointment.

AFTER

-Ice with light pressure the first day

-Arnica cream can be used to help with bruising

-Sleep Elevated the first night if possible to avoid excess swelling.

-Tylenol can be used for pain

-No exercising for at least 24 hours

-Avoid straws, kissing, or rubbing lips after injections for 24 hours

BOTOX & DYSPORT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS BOTOX? WHAT IS DYSPORT? HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

Botox and Dysport are both used to treat and prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and deep facial furrows. By working beneath the surface, Botox and Dysport help reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes the skin to appear wrinkled or folded.
Dysport is very similar to Botox - same price, same duration, but kicks in a little quicker.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX/DYSPORT COST?

Whether you get Botox or Dysport it will cost about the same. Botox is priced at $10/unit, and Dysport is $3.50 per unit (due to diluting factors).

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

You will begin to notice changes after 48-36 hours, however full results can take up to 10-14 days.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

Results from Botox and Dysport are not permanent. Effects usually last about 3-4 months depending on dosing. The more units you get injected, the longer it will last.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Botox and Dysport will only need one single treatment to show results. However, results last about 3-4 months, therefore treatments can continue upon this timeline for as long as the patient desires.

WILL I NEED TIME TO RECOVER?

Small red bumps are noticeable for about 20 minutes following injections but then quickly dissipate like nothing happened. Bruising is possible but not common, plan 7-10 days ahead of any events/vacations.

DERMAPLANING FAQ

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is a safe and effective form of exfoliation done by using a sterile surgical blade to remove dead skin cell build up as well as vellus hair (peach fuzz). It creates a smoother texture, brightens skin tone, provides better absorption of product, and even allows makeup to go on smoother.

DOES DERMAPLANING HURT?

This treatment does not hurt and does not require you to be numbed.

IS THERE DOWN TIME AFTERWARD?

One of the benefits of this facial is that it does not require you to have any downtime. After your dermaplaning is done, I place a hydration mask and allow that to sooth and soak into your skin, and like always, then recommend a light sunscreen.
You may have slight redness initally but that will subside shortly.

WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER?

Dermaplaning shaves the ends of the fine vellus hairs (peach fuzz) but does not touch the follicles themselves. Therefore, your hair will not grow back thicker or faster.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET DERMAPLANING?

I recommend every three to four weeks. Every time you get dermaplaned, you're removing about two to three weeks worth of dead skin cells.

IS DERMAPLANING GOOD FOR ALL SKIN TYPES?

Yes, and it is especially effective on those with superficial acne scarring, uneven skin tone, and is also beneficial for mature skin which often has a large buildup of dead skin cells since cellular turnover slows down with age.
